Japan Airlines (JAL) has officially taken delivery of the first Airbus A350-1000 on Thursday. The aircraft was handed over to the airline during a ceremony in Toulouse, after which the new airliner was to depart for Tokyo Haneda. The arrival of the A350-1000 marks a new phase for JAL fleet plans.
JAL has 13 A350-1000s on order as a replacement for the same number of 777-300ERs in the fleet. The first delivery has taken some time: the heads of version has been spotted in full livery in Toulouse this spring but only commenced flight tests in the past months. Supply chain issues resulted in a delay from the original delivery schedule of November.
