LOT Polish Airlines has selected Airbus as its regional fleet supplier, ordering 40 Airbus A220 aircraft. The order will be split between A220-100 and A220-300 models, which will be gradually joining the LOT fleet beginning in 2027. The agreement also includes options for 44 additional aircraft.
“Today’s decision is about the future. The Airbus A220 family aircraft, which will start joining our fleet in 2027, open up new opportunities for development and growth – key pillars of our strategy. These modern, efficient, and passenger-focused aircraft will allow us to compete effectively in the European skies, strengthen our position as the preferred carrier in Central and Eastern Europe, and prepare LOT for its role as a leading airline at the Central Communication Port,” said Micha? Fijo?, LOT Executive Officer.
In the configuration ordered by LOT Polish Airlines, the aircraft will be equipped with highly comfortable Recaro seats that are manufactured in Poland. The seats will offer a number of additional convenience features, such as a mobile device holder, 60W USB-C ports for all passengers, allowing to rapidly charge mobile phones or laptops. Handy cup holders will be available as well.Â
The planes’ interiors will be aligned with the styling and color schemes known from the airline’s business lounges and from the cabins of its modernized wide-body aircraft. Large overhead bins will accommodate a higher number of carry-on bags, thus significantly streamlining the boarding process, while the higher and wider passenger cabin, combined with larger windows, will add to the feeling of spaciousness. The aircraft will also be equipped with Wi-Fi internet service to provide connectivity for passengers during flight.
The first aircraft will be acquired by LOT Polish Airlines in 2027, commencing the process of consolidating the carrier’s regional fleet. Once the older generation jets have been withdrawn from use, it will be made entirely of the Airbus A220-100 and -300 planes, facilitating the network planning process and ensuring improved operational efficiency.
“This order for 40 Airbus A220s marks a historic milestone as we officially welcome LOT Polish Airlines into the Airbus family. The A220 Family will be instrumental in LOT’s fleet modernization and network expansion strategy with the A220-100 and A220-300 being the ideal combination for their needs. We look forward to working hand-in-hand with LOT, leveraging Airbus global expertise to support its renewal program and ensure the A220’s seamless integration,” said BenoĂ®t de Saint-ExupĂ©ry, Airbus EVP Sales of the Commercial Aircraft business.
