Eviation announced that UrbanLink Air Mobility, a South Florida-based leader in Advanced Air Mobility (AAM), has signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) for ten Alice commuter aircraft, with the option to acquire ten additional planes.

UrbanLink is building a fleet of all-electric aircraft, marine craft, and ground vehicles to provide end-to-end zero-emissions transportation. Operating out of its hub cities of Miami, Los Angeles, and San Juan, Puerto Rico, UrbanLink will deploy Alice as part of its urban mobility solutions.

The team behind UrbanLink is impressive. “Our order for Eviation Alice aircraft completes the third leg of our all-electric operating plan, giving us the ability to offer 9-seat, zero-emission flights across our network,” said Ed Wegel, UrbanLink Founder and Chairman. “Together with our regional eVTOL aircraft and electric sea vessels, Alice enables us to provide seamless, sustainable travel options across the regions we serve.”

This deal brings Eviation’s order backlog to $5Bn and a global customer base. We expect the “last mile” segment of air travel to pioneer electric flight. eVTOL is a congestion-busting attempt that moves traffic from the streets to low orbit. Aircraft like the Alice have a reasonable range and can act as small regional feeders.  The Alice is only a 9-seater, which means tiny in commercial terms.  But, as Cape Air shows, some markets and operators can make this work.

Andre Stein, formerly with Embraer, is Eviation’s CEO and shared some thoughts about the company in February.

The segment could be more significant than it is now, or it might not be any more substantial today.   That said, Eviation is making headway, and only Tecnam might compete.
