We’re in the quiet period of the year before the holidays, when everyone is focused on delivering airplanes before year end.  Today’s news focuses on airlines being cautiously optimistic about the future, but concerned about continued aircraft delays.  TUI indicated it is expecting two to three year delays in delivery of its Boeing MAX orders.

In good news, Boeing received a $451 million contract to upgrade F-15J aircraft for the Japanese Air Force.  Increases to backlog and future cash flow are critical at this point in the company’s turnaround.

On the supply chain front, Korean Aircraft Industries won a six-year contract extension to continue to supply the empennage for the 737 MAX family.

Finally, with the range of the 737 MAX capable of 8.5 hour flights, crew rest is necessary per regulations.  But the cabin has no crew rest areas.  This article talks about the ‘blanket tents’ used aboard a long-haul flight from Brazil to Orlando, which don’t look very restful to me.
