In today’s headlines, Boeing wants to boost 787 production, Qatar is dropping the MAX 10 from its plans, and frustrations emerge over Air Force One delays.
The company is investing more than $1 billion in its South Carolina facilities to increase the production rate of the 787 from 7 per month in 2025 to 10 per month in 2026. This increase will generate substantial cash flow for the company and is an essential element of its recovery plan.
Qatar Airways, which was in a fight with Airbus over A350 quality issues, has had its order for 50 A321neos restored, eliminating the need for the B 737 MAX 10. Qatar is looking to either get out of the order, or sell the aircraft to a couple of low cost carriers for whom the aircraft would be a better fit. Qatar, under their previous CEO, had a reputation as a difficult customer for aircraft OEMs.
Delays on the Air Force One replacement project are stretching to the right, resulting in the new aircraft scheduled for 2027 now looking like 2029. Unfortunately for the President-elect, that means the new aircraft will not be ready during his tenure, and he is apparently not happy about that.
The Boeing crisis has negatively impacted Ireland with Ryanair seeing late deliveries causing schedule cuts, while the Spirit Aero facilities and Belfast are awaiting the merger to stabilize their situation.
Finally, investors are wary of the company’s stock, which dropped significantly in 2024, and a prediction that company revenues will face a shortfall of $4 billion due to a late NASA program impacting space operations.
