The US DoT published the July 2024 data, and we updated our models. We are sharing two of them here. Remember to click the double-headed arrow at the bottom right to optimize for your monitor.

In the model above, you can drill down into the data by selecting from various menus on each page.

Page one shows that on-time arrivals in 2024 are mainly in the red. Each page illustrates how the industry can’t seem to get operations to match schedules—schedules that they create!

This smaller model examines more operational numbers, such as taxi times. The following chart sums it all up.

The trend line is clear, and the numbers are accelerating above the trend.  You pay 100c on the dollar but know you won’t get what you paid for.  It is an abysmal performance. Airlines like to blame ATC. Is that fair?

According to the data filed by these airlines, Carrier delays and Late Aircraft are the biggest reasons for late arrivals. NAS (National Air System Delay) delays are significant but pale by comparison. It seems the delays are primarily self-inflicted.
