Argentina’s National Civil Aviation Administration (ANAC) has announced a landmark change in its aviation regulations, removing age restrictions for commercial pilots. The decision, outlined in Resolution 516/2024, was published in the Official Gazette on November 25, 2024. This amendment to the Regulaciones Argentinas de Aviación Civil (RAAC) allows pilots to continue operating beyond the previous age limits of 60 for single-pilot operations and 65 for multi-pilot operations.
Safety and Operational Considerations
ANAC has assured that removing the age restrictions will not compromise operational safety, provided that pilots meet medical and competency requirements. The measure aims to optimize the use of experienced human resources in commercial aviation, enabling seasoned pilots to continue contributing to the industry.
This decision is part of a broader movement in global aviation to balance workforce needs with policies promoting inclusion and non-discrimination. At the August 14th ICAO Air Navigation Conference, discussions began on potentially raising or eliminating pilot age limits globally, citing advancements in medical technology and operational standards.

All nations should follow this measure, mandatory retirement age for pilots is stifling the industry, keeping people away from making a career change later in life and forcing competent and fit people into early retirement. These days with advances in modern medicine and lifestyle making people retire at 65 in an highly automated profession do not make sense.
