ANA E190 E2
ANA plans to buy over $14 billion of aircraft from Boeing, Airbus, and Embraer. The airline announced today that it ordered up to 77 aircraft from the three OEMs to support medium-to-long-term international growth and meet demand changes in its domestic operations. The aircraft are expected to be delivered by around 2033, and their total catalog price is approximately $14.41 billion.
Airbus won a follow-on order for 14 A321neo from ANA. Another 10 A321neo and three A321XLRs were selected for its LCC Peach. This is Japan’s first XLR order. The Peach aircraft will get CFM International (CFM) LEAP engines. These orders bring the number of XLR orders to 524. Interest in the XLR is being watched closely across the industry. This is a noticeable win for Airbus.
Boeing won orders for eight 737 MAX 8s plus four options and 18 787-9s powered by engines. ANA was a Rolls-Royce customer for previous 787s, and this change reflects its dissatisfaction with Trent’s reliability. The orders announced are in addition to 10 options for 737 MAX 8s that were part of a deal in January 2019 and five options for 787-9s announced in February 2020.
The big news, though, is this part of today’s deal. Not only is this Embraer’s first ANA win, but it also ends the SpaceJet saga. ANA has 15 confirmed orders and five options for the E190-E2. This is Japan’s first E2 deal. Deliveries start in 2028. The E190-E2 has lived in the shadow of the E195-E2. In the “E1” generation, it was the E190 that sold best.
Moreover, the Embraer win is a crucial deal for the program, which has seen slow orders recently. Therefore, this win is important, especially because ANA is a big brand airline. ANA is a customer that influences others who may have been hesitant so far.
