Pilatus Aircraft introduced the third major upgrade to its PC-12 single engine turboprop aircraft, named the PC-12 NGX at a reveal Monday evening before the start of the NBAA-BACE in Las Vegas. The new PC-12 NGX features a redesigned cabin, upgraded engines, upgraded avionics and a single lever engine control. The PC-12 NGX began flight testing in December 2017 and is expected to gain EASA certification before year end. It is expected than deliveries of the new aircraft will begin in the second quarter of 2020. The aircraft will have two models, a base model at $4.39 million and an executive configuration priced at $5.37 million. To date, 1,730 deliveries of the prior PC-12 and PC-12 NG models have been delivered. Featuring a dual-channel integrated electronic propeller and engine control system, the new engine reduced pilot workload, optimizes power, provides full digital envelope protection and precise and intuitive engine controls. Maria Della Posta, President of Pratt & Whitney Canada, had these remarks at the introduction: https://youtu.be/zmJBEMedP4M The 1,825 shaft horsepower engine features a single power level, and is flat-rated for 1,100 shp in cruise flight, 10% higher than the previous engines. The NGX can now reach a maximum cruise speed of 290 knots and is certified to fly without fuel anti-ice additives. With a TBO of 5,000 hours and on-condition hot section inspections, the new engine builds on the proven PT6 platform, and will transmit data on more than 100 engine parameters to provide early warning of potential problems. The engine will also be able to operate in a low-prop speed mode, reducing from 1,700 rpm to 1,550 rpm. That will enable lower cabin noise with “virtually negligible performance degradations.” The new flight deck for the PC-12 NGX features an Advanced Cockpit Environment with Honeywell Epic 2.0 avionics and a new touchscreen avionics controller for the pilot. A new emergency descent mode has been added, and new tactile feedback is aimed at helping pilots avoid unintentional excessive bank angles. The flight deck feature a number of new additions, including high resolution airport 2D moving maps, Honeywell’s SmartLanging and SmartRunway awareness, 3D intelligent audio with ATC playback and Bluetooth interfaces, electronic checklists linked to Crew Alerting System messages, global graphical weather, night mode charts, more vivid color flight displays, and pilot-defined visual approaches.
