Today we spoke with Luís Carlos Affonso, Embraer’s Commercial Aviation COO about the company’s decision process when confronted a clean sheet competitor with a disruptive new engine. Follow the link below to listen to our podcast.
Back in 2010 and 2011 Embraer was facing disruption to their market. Taking a deliberate approach the company took the same path as Airbus and Boeing and selected the lower risk significant update path for their E-Jet. Mr Affonso provides insights not heard before. Embraer de-risked the E2 by continually developing other projects, adding to their internal skills, enabling them to offer the E2 with between 16% and 23% lower costs per seat. With a customer base of 65 airlines around the world, Embraer is confident many will upgrade from the current E-Jets to the E2.
