The US airline industry has consolidated around a few big brands. But even so, there are interesting patterns to watch.  The animated chart below shows ASM growth from 2010 through September 2019.

  • Watch the big three jockey for leadership – Delta truly shines
  • Despite being #4, Southwest has sufficient critical mass to impact the big three on pricing, proving that disruptors impact even in an oligopoly.
  • There is another race among the smaller airlines like JetBlue, Alaska, Hawaiian, and the LCCs.
