Embraer has quietly had a substantial increase in its backlog in 2025.  Backlog has increased across all four business areas, commercial aircraft,  business aircraft, military aircraft and services and support. Embraer has received a number of significant orders in 2025, increasing the company’s backlog at the end of the third quarter to $31.3 billion, a record high and 38% Q3 increase year over year.

Commercial Aviation

The E2 family of jets now appears to be coming into its own, particularly the largest model from Embraer, the E195-E2.  That 132 seat aircraft is proving popular for route development and services in smaller markets than a larger Airbus or Boeing could accommodate.  Major orders for the E195 came from SAS for 45 firm and 10 options, ANA for 15 firm and 5 options, LATAM for 24 firm and 50 options, and Avelo for 50 firm and 50 options.  SkyWest also order 60 firm and 50 options for E175 jets because of scope clause restrictions in the US.  The E175 is the only remaining regional jet in the market with seating configurations that meet US scope clause requirements.

Business Aviation

Embraer’s business aviation offerings include the best selling small jet, the Phenom 100 and Phenom 300, as well as a popular super mid-size jet with the Praetor 500 and Praetor 600 that offer trans-continental range that competing aircraft of that size cannot match.

Fractional ownership company Flexjet placed a firm order for 182 aircraft with 30 options as well as an enhanced services and support contract.  That size order validates industry leading business jets from Embraer.  The Phenom has been the best selling business jet in its class in each year for more than a decade, and the more recently introduced Praetor has gained market leadership in its class.

The backlog for business aviation is up 65% year over year at the end of the third quarter.

Military Aviation

The C-390 Millennium aircraft, which also comes in a tanker version, appears to be the de facto replacement for the C-130 with many NATO countries.  The C390 now has 9 European customers and the NATO equipped version has sold well, with initial deliveries now completed.  The defense unit was up 8% in backlog year-over-year as the aircraft attracts more operators.

The potential exists for several larger orders in 2026, subject to winning a competitive battle against Lockheed-Martin’s C130, with a design that dates from the 1950s.  The C-390 is an attractive option with a more modern and capable design.

The Tucano trainer and light-attack aircraft continues to gain market acceptance, as it has with the Portuguese Air Force with appropriate NATO modifications.  The potential for growth continues, with Panama joining as a new operator in 2025.

Service and Support

Embraer has separated Service and Support into a separate business unit, the backlog for which is up 40% year-over-year in the third quarter.  This unit has new emphasis as an additional source for revenue growth and is an integral part of several orders signed in 2025.

The Bottom Line

Embraer has had a positive year in all four of its business units, despite several headwinds.  The Trump tariffs of 10% on Brazil are up from the former free trade.  Fortunately, Embraer has business jet operations in Melbourne, Florida for assembly, and sources a significant portion of each aircraft from the US.

Should the USAF choose the C-390 or KC-390, Embraer could build the aircraft in the US, adding to the substantial us content on the aircraft, including engines and avionics.

Embraer remains a niche player, but one with unique aircraft well suited to their markets, and the potential for substantial further growth.  Look for higher deliveries in 2026 as airlines, business jet operators and militaries all have new customers for Embraer aircraft.
