As western airframers elbow each other to meet Uganda Airlines’ near-term fleet requirements, Chinese aviation infrastructure major Aviation Industries Corporation of China (AVIC) is pursuing a different strategy. AVIC is instead seeking to unseat SAMCO Aircraft Maintenance Netherlands as the MRO provider for the carrier’s fleet of Mitsubishi CRJ-900s.
A Chinese delegation was in Uganda recently to meet Uganda Airlines management. However, instead of pitching the ARJ-21 as had been largely anticipated, AVIC instead submitted proposals for taking on maintenance of the CRJ-900s.
Co-Founder AirInsight. My previous life includes stints at Shell South Africa, CIC Research, and PA Consulting. Got bitten by the aviation bug and ended up an Avgeek. Then the data bug got me, making me a curious Avgeek seeking data-driven logic. Also, I appreciate conversations with smart people from whom I learn so much. Summary: I am very fortunate to work with and converse with great people.
