The US DoT On-Time data provides a view on the ebb and flow of air travel.  Impacted by seasons that invariably disrupt travel, one expects to see delays rise and fall.

For perspective take a look at this chart showing how many monthly flights there are.  To get an idea of this volume, over the period shown, the US saw an average of 16,146 flights per day.  That means about 12 flights per minute.  The volume is immense and it is growing.
