The proposed joint venture between Boeing and Embraer has been approved by regulators around the world, but not the EU. The European Union has yet to approve the deal and its regulators have now twice requested additional market data from Boeing and Embraer, delaying a decision until June 23rd, 2020. Some see this as a political move, and unlikely in the long-run to be successful.
A WTO tariff battle that has been ongoing for decades ruled in favor of Boeing against Airbus regarding launch aid for the A380 and A350 last year, which has enabled the US to impose tariffs on certain products from the EU, including Airbus aircraft. The EU had been waiting for another WTO case against Boeing to be finalized to impose tariffs of its own and balance the situation.Â
