Azul Airlines, Amyris, Inc.Embraer and GE announced that Amyris’ renewable jet fuel sourced from Brazilian sugarcane has successfully passed all required testing and will be used during a demonstration flight on an Azul E195. The “Azul+Verde” (a Greener Blue) flight will take place in Brazil on Tuesday, June 19th, during the Rio +20 United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development.
This is big news in Brazil because of that nation’s huge sugar production. Embraer’s Ipanema is ethanol powered so the company has been at the forefront of alternatives to aero fossil fuels for some time.
The idea of doing a biofuel test during the UN conference is an excellent opportunity to get the maximum media coverage for this particular fuel source.
