SAS provided Airbus another large neo order today, and has chosen the CFM LEAP engine to power that fleet. This order is significant because SAS is a major operator of 737NG aircraft. SAS currently operates 12 Airbus narrow-bodies and 67 Boeing 737NG aircraft. It looks as if Airbus has cemented a neo convert from 737NG in SAS. SAS plans an all-Airbus fleet for its Copenhagen base over the next decade.
“This aircraft order, on the newest Airbus A320, is a significant and important step in our renewal and harmonization of our aircraft fleet. Through this, we will operate with the market’s most efficient and environmental friendly short- and medium distance aircraft,” says Göran Jansson, SAS Deputy President & Chief Financial Officer.
While SAS had previously chosen A319 and A321 in addition to the 737NG, this is a key victory for Airbus in converting a long-time Boeing customer.

Boeing needs a new CEO. Their current one doesn’t understand he has actually win market share, not sit back and arrogantly proclaim Boeing will take its sweet time.
