The competition between CFM and Pratt & Whitney is best seen on the Airbus A320 family, where there is a choice. The 737 is all CFM. Let's look at the A320 first. CFM has a clear lead over Pratt & Whitney. We have placed the IAE V2500 under the P&W banner as they now own that program. It was formally a partnership with Rolls-Royce. What we see is that CFM has held a steady ~60% share and lately this has grown a bit over 61%. No doubt the recent growth has to do with GTF teething troubles. The latest news on vibrations won't help. How about the A321? Here we see a reversal. It is Pratt that has the ~60% share. Even though Pratt has the bigger share, notice that it has been shrinking since 2015 back to 60%. Again the GTF hiccups cannot have helped. But there is a ray of sunshine for Pratt & Whitney.
