With the May 2024 data published, we updated our models.  This one lists various metrics and allows you to select each airline to get a view of its performance.

The model clarifies that things are getting worse—delays are rising. The data shows that the main reasons for delays are carrier and late aircraft—in other words, self-inflicted problems.

Two metrics show improvement: the first is schedule padding. This YTD, we are back at the rate last seen in 2019, which many regard as the last “normal” industry year. The other is canceled flights, which rose slightly this YTD and is somewhat over 1%.
