The International Aero Engines V2500 appears to be the likely engine selection for the Embraer KC-390 MRTT, AirInsight has learned.
CFM had been thought to have the advantage for its CFM56 because of the larger, worldwide installed base due to its exclusive supplier arrangement for the Boeing 737 and its market share of about 50% of the Airbus A320. We understand that the V2500 may be the winner because of its ability to operate with stronger thrust reversers, giving the KC-390 the ability to back up.
